If you are in Nashville, you know the drill…sunny day, rainy day, cold day, warm day, tornado warning, perfect day, random snow and frost, high pollen count, more rain, and so on and so forth. So the weather is a little unpredictable here, but the sunny and warm days are absolutely amazing! Have you noticed you feel happier in spring and summer? This is because sunlight triggers an increased release of serotonin, which in turn makes you feel happier. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter released by the brain that regulates our mood. When we spend time outside on a sunny day, we absorb vitamin D (hopefully not too much— remember to wear sunscreen and a hat!), which causes the release of serotonin and in turn makes us feel happier. My favorite ways to soak up the sun and enjoy springtime are:
Go for a run— for once your chest will not burn from the cold air, and you will not be dripping in sweat like you will in the summer heat. Enjoy it while you can!
Take a morning walk in the fresh air. Mornings are so peaceful and this is a great way to get ready for your day and embrace the calmness before a day at work.
Drink your morning coffee or smoothie on the front porch or back patio and enjoy a quiet morning outside. This is another great way to take a few minutes for yourself.
Spend time a park like Percy Warner, Radnor Lake, or Cumberland Park! All three are wonderful places to go with kids, friends, a significant other, etcetera. You can go for a walk or run and get your 10,000 steps, play on the playground at Cumberland Park, take in the scenery, throw a football, and just spend time with the people you love.
Anyone enjoy yard work? Springtime screams flowers, fresh cut grass, and nicely groomed flower beds. It is a great way to get outside and cross a couple tasks off your to-do list (you know I love those).
Fire up the grill and enjoy a refreshing mojito on the back patio. The back patio is a great place to catch up with family and friends while enjoying the fresh air.
Hang out at the pool! It may be too chilly to get in the water, but who doesn’t love reading and soaking up the vitamin D?!
Y’all enjoy this beautiful weather and soak up the sun!

Amanda
